Construction Solutions
Early Year Centre, PJS 7, Bandar Sunway
This assignment relates to student’s current studio design project studio 4. and aims to facilitate students in the technical studies and development of their design. It deals with the analysis and establishment of the structural and the envelope systems of the student’s design to ensure that the design has logical and workable construction systems. It also encourages students to think about construction as an integral part of the design and not just an afterthought. Most of the time amateur designers tend to design their spaces without thinking about the construction aspects and later on have to change and redesign their schemes due to the designs were not buildable. This assignment was designed with the intention to tackle this issue and to increase the technical competence of students.
Students are required to study the structural system including floors, walls, foundations, and roof systems. At the same time, students should also study two alternative facade systems and use them in the current studio design project.
On the other hand, is intended to facilitate students to develop practical construction solutions and details for their own design through the production of sectional perspective drawings of spaces. Students are required to produce a detail sectional perspective drawing of TWO interesting spaces in their design; which consists of space on the ground floor and a space on the top floor.
Reflection
Through this project, I was able to learn the proper construction method, elements, connection and process through the precedent studies and imply them into my own building. On the other hand, I have also gained exposure towards facade systems which I had never been exposed to. Through the whole process of research and study, I was able to pick up various construction methods with different ways of connections to a certain level of detail which will aid me in terms of the structural aspects of a building.
