Furthering the thematic exploration of “engaging environment and community”, Project 2 calls for the design of an Early Years Centre (Pre-school Facilities) within a suburban neighbourhood of Bandar Sunway. Project 2 aims to apply the understanding of materials, their relationship to the crafting of architecture to foster a sense of community within the whole context in its physical and social environments, either tangible or otherwise.
It is recommended that the design for the Early Years Centre take into consideration the philosophy of Play and Learn as an important facet of fostering the sense of community and contribute in meaningful ways to the design, which is woven together with sustainable environmental strategies and user and programmatic needs into poetic architectural spaces.
This project was a very tough one as it really requires in-depth consideration of function, poetic values, circulation and spatial arrangement. It was quite a challenge to design the spaces when it also has to suit the design concept of the building. Thankfully for my tutor, I was able to pull it through this semester. I was able to learn and listen to the comments which some are eye-openers for me as I didn't know design could be taken up to another level. Through this project, I have learned my lesson in having a strict discipline in the future so that works will be produced on time and accordingly to the schedule. And last but not least, in order to have a good final presentation, the design has to be finalized at least a week before the submission where the execution of 3D models and drawings, as well as presentation boards, would take up these time to achieve perfection
