Reflection
Along the process, we did face some challenges such as a limited space to design and construct and finally, we got to do something in return to the community and we did receive good comments from the community. It definitely motivates me a lot especially when I back to study. Through this project, I have strengthened my lifelong academic learning which enables me to develop social responsibility as an architecture student. The most important key in this project is teamwork that makes it a successful one.
This project will not be a success without excellent teamwork and coordination. This includes coordination between my group members, our lecturers, and the occupants of the flat. This opportunity to work with the real-world community had taught me to understand the needs of others and to think from others' point of view. Cooperation among my group members also ease the process of activity and props preparation. On another side, trying to stay within budget was a tough one. We once exceeded the cost during initial planning, but fortunately we were able to find the balance between a fairly long-lasting material with an affordable price.
Overall, I feel that this project is a great benefit to both the society and also the students. Firstly it helps in preparing us students for real life situations such as working with other professions in the field. We get to put theory and what we have learnt to practice and not just do it on paper. It gives students a much understanding of how it works in a real life scenario. Secondly this project would benefit society better as we are helping to improve the lives of those who are not able to. In this case, we as designers are using our knowledge to help make the learning spaces of the children much conducive and making their space better.
Lastly , I am grateful for this opportunity to interact with the outside community. Seeing the family members, especially the children enjoying our proposed study room is the biggest achievement for me. This is also in hopes that this would give them a boost in confidence in themselves that no matter what situation they are in, there is always an opportunity. I am very grateful that I had gotten this opportunity to help this family with my ability and knowledge by making their space better. After all, we as designers should design for the community and not just for own desire.
